Esteban Ocon hit the wall hard in FP3 because he was looking in his mirrors and overlooked a slow moving Kevin Magnussen. Who, by the way, had just overtaken him, because he drove slowly himself. According to Sky's analysts this kind of situation could be prevented.

During the third free practice session the commentators of Sky Sports already noticed that many cars drive very slowly on the track when exploring the track or after they have just driven a fast lap.

Minimum speed

This is done in order to save the tyres as much as possible, but can also lead to dangerous situations. Exactly something that happened shortly after the crash of Ocon. However, the Sky team has a solution for that.

"In order to avoid unnecessary slow driving in laps during and after qualifying or during reconnaissance laps when the pit lane exit for the race is opened, drivers should stay below 1:29.0 between the lines of the Safety Car shown on the pit lane map".
