Lewis Hamilton is currently at his strongest. After winning his sixth title, 2020 would be the year in which he rivals Michael Schumacher for the seventh. For the time being, 2020 hasn't started yet due to the coronavirus and that made the British think about quitting.

The six-time world champion made a striking remark during a video interview with employer Mercedes. Because of the lockdown set by the coronavirus in Great Britain, Hamilton is also 'stuck' at home. It's hard for the driver, as his story shows.

"There are days between waking up and feeling a bit sleepy and I have no motivation at all. Then I think 'Jesus, what am I doing now? What am I supposed to do? Do I have to continue racing? There's a lot going on in my head and I'm thinking, "The hell with is."

Expiring contract

Of course Hamilton puts his remark back into perspective. "An hour later, I'm thinking, wait a minute, I think it's really cool what I'm doing. Why would I ever think about not going through with it?"

It may be because the Brit is not such a morning person. He says he gets a lot of motivation from Angela Cullen, his personal coach who is there every morning and radiates a lot of positivity: "It really is a privilege to work with her. It's very important to surround yourself with positivity, so I'm grateful".

However, Hamilton's remark may mean more than initially apparent. The renewal of the Stevenage driver's contract, which expires at the end of this year, was almost complete a few months ago. The closure turned out to be just a formality, but with the new rumours about a possible departure of Toto Wolff to Aston Martin, the arrival of Sebastian Vettel to Mercedes and the complete departure of Mercedes AMG F1 from the sport, this could turn out differently than expected.
