Formula E will continue to race in Rome for at least the next five years. The contract around the ePrix of Rome has been extended until 2025. Formula E and the Italian capital have reached an agreement on this. The ePrix could not continue this year because of the coronavirus, but the city will be on the calendar for the coming years.

The first time Formula E drove in Rome was in the 2017-2018 season. In that year Sam Bird took off with the victory. Since then a lot is expected from the ePrix. Last season the New Zealander Mitch Evans took the win. Robin Frijns has a fourth place so far as best result in Rome.

Stimulation of tourism

Originally the ePrix was supposed to be held on April 4 this season, but due to COVID-19 the race was cancelled. Virginia Raggi, mayor of Rome, hopes that the ePrix can rebuild the tourism sector in Rome. "When we come out of this health crisis, we have to be stronger than ever. Our stat is ready for this challenge," Raggi told Motorsport.com.

"The contract offers the people of Rome a lot of advantages, which will help us to restart everything". It will probably take some time before everything is back to normal in Italy and Rome, but what is certain is that racing will be possible in Rome for years to come.
