The contract of Sebastian Vettel at Ferrari expires at the end of this year and where Charles Leclerc will be in the coming years, it is still unclear for the German. Will he stay at Ferrari and if so, for how long? Vettel has given his view on this in talks with Sky Sports and other media and although he is not concrete, he expects to take steps in the short term.

Other focus

There have not really been any discussions about his contract lately, because the focus was elsewhere. "The first priority after Australia was to understand what we were dealing with. Which, to a certain extent, is still not quite clear. We have to ensure the health of Ferrari, its staff and more, Italy has been hit (by the coronavirus) as one of the first countries in Europe. So the natural focus was there."

Sufficient time

But now that we have a little more insight into the situation and the Formula 1 season will not start for some time, it offers room to look at the contract. "We have time in the coming weeks and as it looks now the next Grand Prix will not take place for the time being, unfortunately, but it will give us time to cover more ground in that regard".

"I think whatever deal it's gonna be, it's gonna be a deal I and the team will feel comfortable with. So as far as the duration is concerned, no idea", but it is not yet clear when the outcome will be. The German driver does say: "Whether it will be before or after the first race depends on when we start racing again".

In other words: it is possible that between now and three months we will have clarity about his future. Based on what he says there seems to be an intention to stay at Ferrari for the time being.
