Verstappen pleased with the pace of the car after Friday in Texas

Max Verstappen was one of the standout drivers from the opening two sessions of the US Grand Prix weekend and the Dutchman has admitted he's pretty satisfied with the pace they've shown so far.

Verstappen topped the timesheets in FP1 beating out the likes of Sebastian Vettel and Alex Albon to top spot. In the second session of the day, Verstappen finished third behind Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, however, Hamilton benefitted from a tow on his quick lap. 

With Verstappen seemingly in contention at this early stage, the Red Bull driver is very satisfied with his day's work.

“Overall it’s been a positive day and the pace of the car on the short runs seems pretty good," Verstappen said.

"Lewis had a tow down the back straight on his fastest lap so I think the time isn’t really representative and the gap is probably a bit smaller than it looks.

"We were a little bit off on the long runs and I’m not entirely happy yet but that’s something we can look at tonight."

The bumps at the COTA track have been a big talking point and Max gave his view on the matter.

"The track seems to be getting bumpier every year but luckily the bumps aren’t really in braking areas but it’s something that probably needs looking at before next year."
