How did we score the drivers at the German Grand Prix? (Bottom 10)
With the ratings for the top ten drivers securing their points finishes it’s time to look at the bottom half of the field with the few that survived the chaos. With seven DNF’s at the German Grand Prix it’s hard to tell, but here we go!
George Russell - 9
How unlucky could Russell get? He’s been consistent with what he’s got all season and out-performed teammate Robert Kubica pretty much all season. But the Pole had the lucky hand being bumped up to 10thfor one point after the Alfa Romeo’s penalties, leaving Russell in eleventh.
Kimi Raikkonen - 8
Raikkonen had a great weekend respectively. He qualified fifth on the grid and charged past Max Verstappen at the start. But that could have been the torque advantage that both Alfa Romeo’s were penalised for having. He finished seventh overall but because of the penalty dropped to 12th.
Antonio Giovinazzi – 7
Giovinazzi didn’t quite make the cut to get into Q3 but started eleventh. Put in a solid race behind his teammate, finishing eighth but for the same reason was penalised and demoted down to 13th.
Pierre Gasly – 5
Oh Pierre… He was looking on course for another top five finish from the British Grand Prix. After crashing his car on Friday, bouncing back and qualifying P4 on Saturday the Frenchman was in a good position but an attempted overtake on Alexander Albon ruined his race. He went into the back of the Toro Rosso, leading to retirement.
Valtteri Bottas - 4
He had been chasing down Verstappen for the lead and looked to be Mercedes’ hero after Lewis Hamilton’s mistakes cost the team. But after the switch to slick tyres Bottas caught a wet patch at turn one, spinning and sliding into a barrier. Damaging result for the team.
Nico Hulkenberg - 4
What a result it could have been for him and the team! He’s the driver with the longest race record without scoring a podium and looked to end that after being in P2. But like many others he slid off at the penultimate corner into the barriers on lap 39. That podium stills waits.
Charles Leclerc – 3.5
A weekend to forget for Leclerc. After not being able to run in Q3 on Saturday he made up several places at the start of the race and could have challenged the front. But instead he initiated the crashes at the penultimate corner, cementing himself in the barrier.
Lando Norris – 3.5
After starting 19thon the grid Norris managed to make up some places and himself thought points could be on the cards, seeing as he was ahead of his teammate and Toro Rosso at one point. But was unfortunate when his engine lost all power leaving him out the race.
Daniel Ricciardo - 3
A third retirement of the season for Ricciardo due to an exhaust leak early on. No doubt would have been interesting for Renault if he had been there for the rest of the race. Surely will hope for a good send off at Hungary.
Sergio Perez – 1
Threw away a massive opportunity having started P8 after looking at all the events unfold over the German GP on the first lap. Spun and crashed after the hairpin, race done.
