Norris and Vettel pick up grid penalties ahead of German Grand Prix

Both Lando Norris and Sebastian Vettel experienced a poor Saturday and have therefore used the opportunity to fit a number of parts which needed to be changed despite exceeding the maximum number allowed.

Vettel had a dramatic qualifying yesterday afternoon. The Ferrari duo demonstrated good pace in all three practice sessions, but when it mattered, the German was forced to stay inside the garage because he had an issue with the turbo. Because of this, Vettel starts from last place.

Ferrari has used this opportunity to add a new set of control electronics, which pushes him over the limit on the number parts he's allocated for the year and therefore he picks up a penalty.

Meanwhile, Norris failed to make it out of Q1 yesterday due to battery problems with his McLaren. McLaren has fitted a new MGU-K in the engine as well as new control electronics. The Brit will start from 19th place, ahead of only Vettel.

In addition, Kimi Raikkonen also replaces a number of parts in his car. The Fin gets a new engine, turbocharger and MGU-H. He also received a new MGU-K from his team on Friday. But Raikkonen will not lose the strong fifth starting place with the changes, as he does not exceed his maximum number of parts for the season.
