Aston Martin Red Bull Racing driver Pierre Gasly has proclaimed he's determined to improve ahead of his home Grand Prix in France next week, as the 23-year-old finished in eighth in Canada after a frustrating race.

Gasly put his RB15 in fifth place in qualifying but had a difficult day behind the wheel during the actual race, finishing behind both Renault cars and also struggling to get past the Racing Point of Lance Stroll, who was on very old hard tyres before the Canadian pitted. Overall, a day to forget after some encouraging performances of late.

"It was a pretty difficult day but the car actually felt quite good so it is disappointing to finish where we did," Gasly said after the race was done and dusted.

"We expected to be stronger than this. We struggled with traffic and had to save the brakes, which compromised us a bit, and I of course wanted to finish better than this.

"We need to analyse everything and see what we can improve but I also need to work hard before the next race. I hope we can find more pace and come back stronger for my home race."
