Steiner has "no complaints" with the new Ferrari engine

Guenther Steiner expects to feel the boost of the new Ferrari engine in Canada this weekend. The Haas team principal has "no complaints" so far and believes it will improve their chances of clawing back points on McLaren.

The new Ferrari engine was, strangely, first used in Monaco two weeks ago. With the streets of Monte Carlo not putting much stress on the engine, Steiner expects to find out the full potential in Montreal.

“The performance of the new engine was very good. There were no complaints. Monaco, as we know, is not a track where the power makes a big difference. It’s always good to have it, but it doesn’t make a big difference," Steiner said ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend.

"In Canada, we’ll really see how much better the engine is. We are hoping it’s a good boost and doing what it should be doing.”

Throughout the early chapters of the season, Haas struggled to make the tyres last in the races. They believe they've solved the issue. Steiner is pleased with the fact Pirelli selected the softest compounds for the upcoming race.

“We’re a little bit more hopeful than maybe where we were about four weeks ago. The soft family (of tires) in Monaco worked pretty well on our cars, so hopefully we can get them to work – get them up to temperature – in Canada, as well," Steiner added.
