Racing Point promises updates will come "thick and fast" after Baku

Racing Point technical director Andrew Green has admitted the team is still a long way off where they want to be, but at the same teased that updates to the car will be coming "thick and fast" after Baku next weekend.

When ownership changed at the team last summer, Racing Point announced their ambitions to be challenging for top three. This is not exactly going to plan, as the team currently sits eighth in the constructors' standings with just seven points, with Sergio Pérez collecting five and Lance Stroll two.

Green explained that by going into administration in the summer of 2018, development for the 2019 car was slowed down significantly. However, the significant financial backing the new Lawrence Stroll-led ownership has brought to the table should be starting to show.

"We'll just have a Baku specific downforce kit," Green told Autosport about Racing Point updates in the near future.

"And then we've got updates coming thick and fast after that.

"Spain is where things start to happen."

While the team wouldn't have signed up for their current position, Green remains optimistic, as he expects the Pink Panthers (do we still call them that?) to be higher up the grid as the year progresses.

"We're still a long way off where we want to be, that's for sure, and it takes time to build the team up to challenge where we want to be challenging, while other teams have made big steps.

"We've been cash-strapped for many years. It's going to take time to build up the team and move it forward.

"We've just got to be patient."
