Lewis Hamilton cruised to victory in the 1,000th Formula 1 race to record his sixth win at the Shanghai International Circuit, and the reigning world champion described the Mercedes one-two as "very special".

Hamilton passed his team-mate Valtteri Bottas, who started on pole in China, on turn one and dominated proceedings for the rest of the race.

Immediately after the race, Hamilton gave his thoughts to Sky Sports F1, and described the weekend as a "very special" one.

"It was not the easiest weekend, but what a great result," the five-time world champion said. "Everyone worked hard. Valtteri was also very fast and did well. To achieve a first and second position in the 1000th Formula 1 race is very special."

Hamilton continued to praise the behind-the-scenes work going on at the Silver Arrows, and described a good strategy going on in the last few races.

"The strategy was very good in the last three races and we have to maintain that in the coming races," Hamilton added. "You can see how close we are to each other, but I don't know what we will see in the next race."
