Former Formula One owner Bernie Ecclestone would have secured a "better" race seat for the returning Robert Kubica, according to a former official spokesman of the 33-year-old.

Kubica is returning to Formula One for the 2019 season, with the Polish driver joining Williams to partner George Russell.

The driver is returning to the grid after an eight-year spell out of F1 because of serious injuries he sustained in a rally crash.

Marcin Czachorski, a former official spokesman of the Polish driver has said.

"I think that if Bernie was still in charge, he would have found a competitive car for Robert," Czachorski said to sport.pl. "F1 would benefit more from that. But Robert has his own plan and knows the path to take. We just need to trust him a little."

Ecclestone has recently been quoted saying that he wished Kubica had a better car to race in for next year, with the team's poor season in 2018.

Kubica will have the chance to try and rekindle the old Williams, after the British team suffered arguably their worst ever season in Formula 1, following a rock-bottom finish to the 2018 campaign.
