Marko expects a strong Red Bull in Miami: 'But that will play a role'
- Ludo van Denderen
With four wins on four different circuits, it is clear that Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen are also the team to beat in 2024. A new challenge awaits the Austrian team in Miami; on a circuit with many slow corners and, above all, in considerable heat. Helmut Marko, Red Bull Racing's external advisor, does not assume in advance that his team will just take a simple victory around the Hard Rock Stadium.
Of course, Marko is not hiding behind the facts either. In Verstappen's hands, the RB20 is as yet unbeatable. In advance, Red Bull and the three-time world champion are also the big favourites for Miami. "I expect us to be competitive in Miami as well. But the conditions are going to be completely different again; hot and humid. And we know how sensitive the tyres are to changes in conditions," Marko said in his column on Speedweek.
Marko expects to compete for victory in Miami as well. The Austrian doesn't say which team will give Red Bull the most heat. That will depend on who will have the best day. Perhaps a little more clarity on the balance of power will already emerge on Saturday when Formula 1 hosts another sprint race.
Marko not in favour of a sprint race
Marko understands that it is attractive for organisers to have a sprint race, but he believes a mini-race somewhat takes the shine off the final Grand Prix. "The sprint conclusion: for an organiser yes, but as a race fan no," Marko said.
