Sainz sets sights on second place: 'Red Bull are still too good'

Toto Wolff is not the only one who thinks Max Verstappen may already be declared world champion. Carlos Sainz also thinks the battle for the number one spot in the standings is already over.

At the post-race press conference, Sainz voiced his concerns about the matter: "I think they are definitely going to have an advantage in the first third of the season until we bring one or two upgrades that makes us fight them more consistently but by that time, maybe it's a bit too late with the advantage that they might have on the championship," said the Spaniard, who for the time being keeps his sights on second place.

With an eye on the standings, it is unfortunate that Sainz missed the race in Saudi Arabia: "A shame because also I missed the race which for both the team and me we it could be costly in the in the championship, we're competing in one race less but at the same time we're gonna give it our best shot.." At the race in Jeddah, Carlos Sainz was replaced by Oliver Bearman who managed to bring in six points for the Italians.

Final year at Ferrari

Sainz wants to get everything out of this season with Ferrari at all costs, also with a view to the future of course: "It's my last year in Ferrari also so yes, nothing to lose and we will try everything to make it back." Sainz is as yet without an F1 seat for 2025. The Spanish driver, on the other hand, is having his best ever season start.
