Verstappen: 'Wolff has been saying really nice things about me lately'
Unlike previous years, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is now very positive about Max Verstappen. Wolff would love the Dutchman to sign with his team. The Austrian team boss has even already expressed that Verstappen already has the title in his pocket. How does the three-time world champion himself feel about that?
Now that Toto Wolff has been left with an empty seat at Mercedes, he is angling for Max Verstappen. The Dutchman is currently at the peak of his career and Wolff would be only too happy to see him at Mercedes. Verstappen is charmed by the Austrian's statements. "Lately, Toto has been really nice saying a lot of nice things about me."
Verstappen disagrees with Wolff
Unlike Wolff, Verstappen himself is not yet entirely convinced of a fourth world title. "I don't know it's still a very long season I don't want to think about the rest of the season too much. I really want to approach it race by race," he said after the Japanese Grand Prix.
The Dutchman is realistic that scoring maximum points everywhere is not going to happen. "I know there will be tracks coming up that might not be so favourable for us, but then of course when we do get to tracks where we know that we can be quick we have to really take advantage of it and score the maximum amount of points as a team and that's what we will continue to try and do. And then of course when I think we know that we get to tracks where maybe it's a bit more difficult we have to try and maximise that as well where maybe other teams can win as well."
