Alonso thinks absolutely nothing of Verstappen rumours: 'Zero chance'
Fernando Alonso does not believe anything about Max Verstappen leaving Red Bull Racing. The Spaniard cannot imagine Verstappen leaving Red Bull's success behind.
Verstappen leaving Red Bull Racing: it seems increasingly likely. Things are rumbling behind the scenes at the team and this could possibly lead to an exit for the Dutchman. Verstappen himself points (repeatedly) to his contract that runs through 2028 and Alonso does not see Verstappen leaving either.
Why Alonso does not see Verstappen leaving
"Sure, if Max leaves Red Bull, maybe that has an impact. But I think there's zero chance of that happening. So I think that's something that I'm not thinking too much. What I want to do is just concentrate on my stuff," the Spaniard said in Japan. Alonso says he has no information on this, but that it is his feeling that Verstappen will not leave.
An important period is also coming up for Alonso. His contract expires at the end of 2024 and, at 42 years old, there also comes a time when he has to think about his future. "Before summer, trying to make a decision of if I keep racing or not. And if I keep racing, where will be the best possibility."
Alonso himself says he is no fan of the rumour mill, but is said to have given that rumour mill a hand himself. Indeed, Alonso has been heavily linked with a seat at Red Bull Racing. Red Bull denies that there would be talks with the Spaniard, but insiders say that Alonso himself would like to go to Red Bull.
