Carlos Sainz won the Australian Grand Prix. Indeed, a crash by Max Verstappen meant there was little competition left for the Spaniard. His teammate, Charles Leclerc, could not match him either. Carlos Sainz is therefore overwhelmingly the 'GPblog driver of the day'.

During free practice and qualifying, Carlos Sainz was already amazingly fast. His Ferrari was not far off the Red Bulls in all sessions. The Austrian racing stable had a difficult weekend, running into several problems. As icing on the cake, Max Verstappen had to stop his Red Bull after three laps. Partly because of this, the Spaniard managed to clinch victory.

Carlos Sainz received 59.9% of the votes from GPblog readers. So he is overwhelmingly the GPblog driver of the day. What makes his victory extra clever is the fact that Sainz had surgery on his appendix a fortnight ago. With the bandage still sitting around his stomach, he managed to win the Australian Grand Prix with conviction.

Max Verstappen came second, with 15.3% of the vote. Due to his Red Bull's brakes catching fire, the Dutchman had to drive his car back into the pits as early as the fourth lap. One bright spot of the Australian Grand Prix weekend was his pole position on Saturday.

Yuki Tsunoda got the third spot from GPblog readers. The Japanese got 9.6% of the votes. He managed to drive a good race in which he scored his first points. In addition, he beat his teammate, Daniel Ricciardo, for the third time in a row. Tsunoda finished seventh, Ricciardo 12th.
