Who is the favourite to win the race?

Verstappen is comfortably favourite to win the race in Jeddah. The Dutchman is on pole and demonstrated sublime long run pace on Friday. However, this is Jeddah. The circuit is well known for safety cars and red flags. Anything could happen on the coast of the red sea. Should it not be Verstappen, then Perez, Leclerc and Fernando Alonso are best placed to take the win.

Carlos Sainz will not compete in this race. The Spaniard required surgey on his appendix on Friday and is out of action. Instead, 18-year-old British driver Oliver Bearman will make his Formula 1 debut. He becomes the youngest Brit to race in Formula 1. He starts from 11th on the grid after just missing out on Q3 by less than one tenth to Lewis Hamilton.

Why is the race on Saturday?

The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix weekend has been moved forward a day to avoid a clash with Ramadan. Two practice sessions occurred on Thursday, with the third and final practice hour on Friday. Qualifying took place on Friday evening, with the Bahrain Grand Prix on Saturday. This is the last time a Grand Prix will take place on a Saturday (local time) until the Las Vegas Grand Prix towards the end of the season.
