What do we expect in FP2?

The second free practice session of the weekend will last 60 minutes and will feature both qualifying and race simulations. Usually, the qualifying simulations happen after around 30 minutes. The teams will then send out the cars for a long run. This circuit is prone to yellow and red flags. It's not uncommon to see long-run disruptions in Jeddah. This session is the most representative of the conditions that will be experienced during the important sessions in Saudi Arabia.

The Red Bull car has a new cooling system that appears aggressive. This will provide its first real test, as the temperature is expected to be above 30c. Mercedes also had cooling issues last week, so they will also run some tests to try and ensure this doesn't happen again.

Why is FP2 on Thursday?

The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix weekend has been moved forward a day to avoid a clash with Ramadan. Two practice sessions will take place on Thursday, with the third and final practice hour on Friday. Qualifying takes place on Friday evening, with the Bahrain Grand Prix on Saturday. This is the last time a Grand Prix will take place on a Saturday (local time), until the Las Vegas Grand Prix towards the end of the season.
