Alonso thinks he is on Red Bull's list for 2025 F1 season
Currently, Formula 1 news is dominated by rumours surrounding Red Bull Racing. Not only about team boss Christian Horner but also about Jos Verstappen and a possible switch for Max Verstappen (to Mercedes), which would perhaps be even more shocking than Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari. Should a seat at Red Bull become vacant next year, Fernando Alonso believes he is on the list himself.
"We started in a slightly lower position than last year, but we have more hope of becoming the second team," Alonso told Spain's Marca. He believes his team has a better development plan this year than in 2023, in which Aston Martin actually started strongly but was overtaken by McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari over the course of the season.
Alonso: 'I believe I am on Red Bull's list'
Asked about the rumours of a possible switch of Max Verstappen to Mercedes, Alonso says: "There have been a lot of rumours in the last two or three months, it's hard to believe them all." In case that switch does come about or Sergio Perez has to leave after this year, the Spaniard believes he is on the shortlist to take over the vacant seat.
"I believe I am on the list because at the moment I don't have a contract for next year. It is better to be on that list than on other lists," he laughs. Still, he feels it is too early to talk about his future. "First of all, I have to see if I want to keep racing. If I commit, it is because I really believe there is a chance to win races," Alonso said.
