The illustrious Schumacher name is missing from the Formula 1 grid. Mick - the son of former world champion Michael - again failed to secure a seat. However, the German remains active as a test and reserve driver for Mercedes. Schumacher will also start working in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). Something completely different from Formula 1, as other categories also appear to have been an option for Schumacher.

"You always think about what's out there," Schumacher responded to various media - including GPblog. "What are the options? And you kind of try and make a pro and cons list. WEC was the one with the least cons and the most pros. It was pretty easy for me to decide that that was a challenge to go for."

Schumacher in IndyCar?

The German went on to reveal that he had also considered a move to Super Formula in Japan. "I have, and I have also considered going west. If you do that, there's just little chance of doing a dual program with Formula One," said Schumacher, reaffirming that a return to F1 is his priority.

Schumacher will, therefore, compete in all races in the WEC with Alpine. Should Lewis Hamilton or George Russell be unavailable for Mercedes, a Grand Prix will take precedence over participation in WEC.
