Ross Brawn has admitted that low temperatures were not considered a factor when Formula 1 put the Las Vegas Grand Prix on the calendar in November. As the F1 race takes place late in the evening, drivers and teams will have to deal with very low minimum temperatures.

F1 did not foresee low temperatures Las Vegas GP

Brawn, who stepped down from his senior position in Formula One Management in 2022, was involved in planning the third GP in the United States. The race in the famous gambling city takes place in mid-November and while temperatures are still pleasant during the day, they drop rapidly in the evening.

"The one thing we hadn’t considered initially but the tyre company have dealt with is it gets very, very cold at night," Brawn said in conversation with TalkSport. "So when the race is happening, which is Saturday night, it has been known to drop down to three or four degrees."

He continued: "So, it can be really quite cold and of course getting the cars to work in those temperatures can be a challenge. The tyre companies have done some work to make sure the tyres can cope with that." That tyre manufacturer, Pirelli, predicted in a preview of the race weekend that there would be a lot of complaints from drivers.
