Perez finds Red Bull support important for mental recovery after Mexico GP

Sergio Perez suffered a major mental blow by crashing in the very first corner of his home Grand Prix in Mexico, but he is keen to prove at the Brazil GP that he is still mentally strong.

Perez's crash reignited discussions about his seat at Red Bull in 2024, despite the fact that he still has a current contract. Not only Daniel Ricciardo, but even Fernando Alonso was mentioned as a possible new teammate of Max Verstappen. The Aston Martin driver himself was certainly not keen on those rumours, he made it clear upon arrival at Interlagos.

Perez wants to prove he is mentally strong

Of all the rumours, Perez says he does not care much. "No, I’ve been in the sport for 13 years, and I know that everyone has a different agenda here – even the journalists. I’m used to it," the Mexican told Speedcafe.com.

Perez is also not yet worried about the possibility of Red Bull considering replacing him instead of negotiating a contract extension. "It’s not something I’m thinking about right now, to be honest. When you are going through a difficult patch you want to focus on the racing side."

"There are so many rumours about my future that I just don’t have any energy for that. I just want to focus on Sunday," the Red Bull Racing driver added. After the disappointment in his home race, he sees the Brazil GP as a "a great opportunity to show how strong I am mentally".

Perez feels support from Red Bull is important

"As an athlete, you have these sorts of moments. The most important thing is how you overcome them and how you recover from them," he continued. In doing so, he had the support of Red Bull bosses Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, Perez explained. "Obviously, having the team support is always very important because at the end of the day, we are all in this together. Having all their support always helps, and from all the fans as well."
