Wolff after Hamilton's P2 in the Sprint: "Above our predictions"
Toto Wolff has said the results at the United States Grand Prix "are a real positive" as Lewis Hamilton took P2 in Saturday's Sprint Race.
Wolff pleased with his team's performance
Wolff returned to the F1 paddock after a brief hiatus due to knee surgery, where he missed the Japanese and the Qatar Grands Prix, returning to F1 at the Circuit of the Americas.
On his return, he oversaw Lewis Hamilton take a solid P2 in Saturday's Sprint Race. George Russell also scored points, but he could only battle for 8th place after he was given a five-second time penalty for overtaking Oscar Piatri off the track.
Speaking to Viaplay after the Sprint, he was happy overall with the performance of his team. "We didn't expect to be fast here, so we are above our predictions, which is good. It seems that between the Ferraris and Norris, it's a tough battle with us, so that's a positive."
Wolff also spoke about Russell's penalty, which hindered his race, with the German team believing he had the pace to wipe out his five-second penalty. Wolff continued by saying, "I think we thought we had the pace to just create more than the five seconds. Obviously, in hindsight, we should have given the place back, but yeah… wrong decision, but it's okay."
