The FIA are adamant that Ferrari's sudden slump in Formula One has nothing to do with a sensor that's attached to the Ferrari has anything to do with it.

The sensor was attached to the Ferrari in order to monitor electrical power, but the FIA are certain that the slump is not their fault.

There was a time in the championship where Ferrari were enjoying a considerably faster car than Mercedes, but it is completely roles reversed at the moment; most recently, the Silver Arrows boasting a 1-2 in Japan.

Ferrari's extra speed earlier in the season was reportedly down to a discovery of a way to harvest electrical power, causing the FIA to investigate the matter.

FIA Race Director, Charlie Whiting has insisted that this is nothing to do with the FIA, though.

"There's a drop in form, and I think there's some speculation that it's due to this magic sensor that we've made them put on," Whiting explained. "I'm not going to go any further on that.

"I would say from an engine performance perspective, we don't agree with what is being suggested. There is no link at all.

"We spoke on Saturday morning, and it's clear now. I don't think again I should tell you what we discussed, but it's all clear on both sides."

Whiting was asked to give more detail on why the FIA placed this sensor on the Scuderia, and replied: "If I do that, unfortunately I will be telling you about Ferrari's car and hence I'll be telling the other teams about Ferrari's car. That's not something I can do."
