Departing McLaren driver Stoffel Vandoorne is not happy with the state of his team, saying that McLaren currently look like beginners with the way that they've been performing recently.

The Belgian has had a very tough year, with him not being able to beat his teammate Fernando Alonso a single time in qualifying so far after 17 tries.

Still, the 26-year-old has also been a victim of the very poor tools McLaren have provided him with, as he's been forced to retire through mechanical failures multiple times, and the MCL33 hasn't exactly been fast either when it did stay on track.

"I'm just going to try to enjoy it, even if it's not easy at all in these conditions," Vandoorne told Belgian radio station RTBF when asked how his last races in Formula One are going, as he won't be in the sport from next season onwards.

"Every weekend we are almost last, we look like beginners.

"It's not at all what we like, we should be much higher, unfortunately it's like that.

"A change will be good, the two years I spent with McLaren were not easy, I think these are the worst years of the team.

"Being in a new environment will do me good, I will try to keep in touch with F1 one way or another, I do not know exactly how, and if there are opportunities to come back I will not come back at any cost, but only in good conditions."

With just four races to go, Vandoorne will hope to go out with a bang, but that's looking unlikely at the moment.
