Beitske Visser makes revelation about W Series: 'Received no prize money'

It has been clear for a while now that the W Series has died a quiet death. The racing class for female drivers was facing money problems and filed for suspension of payments in June. The financial problems still have some unpleasant consequences: for instance, it seems that the drivers can whistle for the prize money they earned in 2022. Beitske Visser reveals this in conversation with Ziggo Sport.

On the Race Café broadcast, Visser confirmed that the racing class no longer exists. "They had some problems with investors and as a result they ran into too many financial problems," says the 28-year-old Dutchman, who is competing in the Nurburgring Endurance Championship this year.

W Series drivers can whistle for prize money

The bankruptcy of the class has far-reaching consequences for the drivers who competed in the 2022 season, which was ended early due to the financial problems."I don't think any of the drivers have been paid," Visser continued. "The people I have spoken to have all not been paid."

The sums involved are hefty and the drivers are missing out as a result. "I was second, so that was a nice pot. That was two and a half tonnes," Visser says. "But I don't think I'm going to see one euro of that back." Where Visser misses out on $250,000, that's double for winner Jamie Chadwick. She misses out on a whopping $500,000. In total, the season's prize pool was one and a half million dollars.
