Aston Martin seemed to be the second team behind Red Bull Racing again in Canada, after a poor weekend in Spain. The team took quite a few updates to Montreal and they seemed to do their job well: Indeed, Aston Martin was closer to Red Bull than all other weekends. Auto, Motor und Sport (AMuS) even reported that the team believes it will soon be on the level of the dominant Austrian formation.

In Canada, Aston Martin introduced a major update; among other things, the car's floor was new and the AMR23 's sidepods also had an update. With this, the British team seemed to have significantly reduced the gap to Red Bull. Indeed, the gap after the flag dropped in Canada was 'only' 10 seconds to Max Verstappen's RB19, while Red Bull won all other races with a lead of more than 20 seconds. This did not happen in Australia only, where the race ended under the safety car.

Aston Martin believes in fight at the front

The weekend in Canada unfortunately proved not quite suitable for Aston Martin to evaluate the new parts. The first practice session saw hardly any driving due to Formula 1's technical problems and the third practice session took place in rainy conditions. This left only the second practice session to test the performance of the update, but that too ended with rain.

According to German AMuS, there is a belief within the Aston Martin team that it is already at Red Bull's level due to the major update. Due to the changeable conditions in Montreal, the team was not yet able to get everything out of the new package, Fernando Alonso confirmed. "We will be able to optimise the package from Spielberg and Silverstone onwards."
