Lando Norris received an unfortunate time penalty from the stewards in Canada. The McLaren driver thought he would finish in the points, but saw five seconds added to his finishing time, meaning he was not among the 10 lucky points scorers. The Briton was severely disappointed, he revealed in his interview afterwards with Sky Sports.

"The guys didn't tell me until just now," he told reporters immediately after the race. The man with start number four received a five-second time penalty for "unsportsmanlike conduct". According to the stewards, Norris would have deliberately left a gap behind the safety car. Norris refuted those noises. "It doesn’t make sense to me, I was what 3 seconds, 4 seconds behind my delta," stated the young Briton. "everyone quite often is. It was too early to box for what we were planning to do. So wasn’t planning to box in the first place. Then I got a call just before the pit entry." As a result, he was therefore unable to bring his delta down to zero.

According to the McLaren driver, it only makes sense that he was above his own delta. "Of course you go slow, you go quick, you speed up. You want to keep the temperature in the tyres, so everyone leaves gaps, and you open up gaps. It wasn’t like I was 10 seconds behind my delta." Norris therefore has a message for the stewards:"If it’s because of the delta difference, most people should be given penalties for the last three years, four years."

Lando Norris eventually finished in 13th place, two spots behind teammate Oscar Piastri. After his scoreless weekend, the talent is 11th in the drivers' championship. McLaren itself has to make do with sixth place.
