Horner on 'faultless' Verstappen: 'Great race from him'

Christian Horner is proud of Max Verstappen. The World Championship leader was "faultless" and drove a "great race" in the British team boss' view. Sergio Perez, on the other hand, struggled a lot more Sunday, although Horner believes he maximised.

"It's an amazing achievement for the whole team to achieve a century of wins within 19 seasons is an incredible achievement that the whole team are incredibly proud of," said Horner to Viaplay, who saw Verstappen cross the line first at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the sixth time in eight weekends this season. "Max today was flawless. It was tricky because the conditions made the tyres, they didn't really come into their window where they were happy. It was a great race for him."

Perez gets nowhere

Sergio Perez had to come from outside the top-ten after a mediocre Saturday, but more than sixth place was out of the question. Red Bull thought immediately after qualifying that more should be possible for the 33-year-old Mexican. So that turned out not to be the feeling. What was that due to, according to Horner?

"I think it was tricky for Checo. There wasn't a lot of overtaking going on in that race. The beginning of the race cost him and again that tyre temperature he struggled with. He did a great job with the fastest lap at the end of the race. I think from where he started in P12 to gain those places was probably the maximum today," said the team boss.
