Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has acknowledged that it's a special feeling for the German team to have won the Singapore Grand Prix in such convincing fashion, as the Marina Bay Street Circuit typically was a bogey track for the Silver Arrows.

Lewis Hamilton converted his pole position into a convincing win, as his lead was never really in danger. There was just one moment, a moment of madness where Romain Grosjean ignored a blue flag and didn't let Hamilton past, where the lead could've been taken from him.

Max Verstappen came extremely close to overtaking the Brit, but couldn't capitalize on the situation, with Grosjean also blocking him from getting past, allowing Hamilton to get some distance between the two again.

After that, it was plain sailing for both drivers, but a very special win for Mercedes, who typically struggle at Singapore.

“Singapore has been our bogey track for several years, so it is a special feeling to come here and win this race on pace,” Wolff told CheckeredFlag, referring to last year's win, which was down to the Ferrari's and Verstappen crashing out in lap one.

“The entire team has worked so hard to understand the car and take steps forward, especially since our defeat in Spa, and this result is an indication that our work is paying off.

“We prepared well for this weekend, came here determined to make a step and we delivered.

“It was a weekend of many parts: a stardust lap from Lewis in qualifying, a chess game of tyre management this evening, and some nervous moments with traffic and backmarkers during the race – but in the end, we outscored our rivals for both championships and delivered a really satisfying result,” the Austrian concluded.
