Will Zandvoort stay beyond 2025? 'Haven't had any talks yet'

Late last year, it was announced that a Grand Prix at Zandvoort will be held in 2024 and 2025. However, it is not a foregone conclusion that the race will be held in the Dutch coastal town beyond 2025 because, according to Robert van Overdijk, director of the Zandvoort circuit, it strongly depends on the choices made by Formula 1 itself.

Many contracts expire after 2025

Formula 1 is immensely popular at the moment, and this is not only true in the Netherlands. That is why many countries are interested in hosting an F1 race. "We haven't had any talks on this yet, because FOM (Formula One Management) itself is not out yet either. A lot of contracts with circuits expire in 2025, and FOM has to start thinking about how many more races they want in Europe, for example," Van Overdijk told the AD.

'Not obvious that Zandvoort stays'

A large part of the races on the F1 calendar are held in Europe, but recently Formula 1 seems particularly interested in races outside Europe. For example, races in Miami, Jeddah and Qatar have been added in recent years, and this year a Grand Prix in Las Vegas is also scheduled.

"It must first be clear how many European races will remain on the calendar after 2025 and whether there might be a rotation system, the consequence of which might be that Zandvoort is not on the calendar every year. In theory, FOM could also say they have seen it with Zandvoort after 2025. So hence I don't take it for granted that Formula 1 will still be seen at Zandvoort after 2025."
