The most notable participant in the 24 Hours of Le Mans was the NASCAR car driven by Jimmie Johnson, Mike Rockenfeller and Jenson Button. The car competed as a Garage 56 project in its own category, and was particularly notable for the amazing sound it produced.

Afterwards, former Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button looked back on the race. "It was awesome here, you know obviously the crowd is here to celebrate everyone who is taking part in the 24 hours of Le Mans, to hear the cheer for our car to go past," Button, who knew beforehand that the team was not competing to win, told Eurosport.

'Great group of people'

According to Button, it was a long road for the team to finally drive at Le Mans. " It’s been a long journey with all of these guys, to get in the car and get ready for Le Mans. Lots of long hours, but what an amazing group of people, you know, to produce what they have with this car, taken from the (NASCAR) Cup car, making it into an endurance car for Le Mans. Staggering, the best in the business, so I’m proud to be working with these guys."

There wasn't much to gain for the team. But: "We did (pretty well), we didn’t make any mistakes. You know we still want to push the car hard, the car, it’s reasonably easy to drive, it’s forgiving, drive it hard, you can do go slower, but it really is a wonderful car to drive," Button said.
