Perez defeated after 'calamitous' performance: 'Verstappen peerless to P1'

F1 expert Peter Windsor watched with sorrow as Sergio Perez was stranded in Q2 of qualifying in Barcelona, he says on his own YouTube channel. The Brit also saw that Charles Leclerc could not match the times of teammate Carlos Sainz.

Windsor saw that things once again went wrong during qualifying for the Mexican, following previous disappointments in Australia and Monaco. "Absolutely calamitous performance again by Perez to go off in Q2 in a car as good as Red Bull," Windsor stated. Teammate Max Verstappen fared a lot better in his RB19. "That same car, Max Verstappen has taken to a peerless pole," he said.

Sergio Perez will have to hope for a miracle Sunday afternoon in Barcelona. The six-time race winner will start from P11, 10 spots behind his teammate and only rival for the world title. At least, the gap is already 39 points between Verstappen and Perez after six races. If the Dutchman also manages to run out in Barcelona, things will have to get very strange if the Mexican is to get back in the race for the title.

'Leclerc needs to drive like Sainz'

According to the former Formula 1 manager, Charles Leclerc should have got more out of his tyres. "He drives very very neat and tidy. I was hoping that somebody out there, persumably it was going to be Frederic Vasseur, the new team principal at Ferrari was going to be in his ear saying: ‘Charles whatever you do, cane these tyres, get sideways" Windsor points to his teammate, Carlos Sainz. "That’s what Carlos Sainz has been doing, you know how he drives, he’s got temperature, you have got to drive like Carlos Sainz around this lap."

For Carlos Sainz, qualifying was a nice boost. According to rumours, the Spaniard is not entirely sure of his seat at Ferrari in the coming years. Besides, from P2, Sainz can make his home crowd proud with a possible podium finish.
