Ferrari president Elkann: 'Profound changes are taking place'
- GPblog.com
Ferrari is having its worst season start since 2009 in Formula 1 and so there is a certain amount of unrest in Maranello. President John Elkann has made it clear in a letter to Ferrari shareholders that everything is being done in the background to get things back on track. The timing of John Elkann's words is striking, given that his brother made particularly critical comments a few days ago.
Last week, the annual accounts were presented to the shareholders and they have since also received a letter. In it, Elkann writes: "Profound changes are taking place within the walls of Maranello, especially in strengthening the sporting activity at the circuit." What exactly will change is not made clear. That it relates to the Formula 1 branch is certain, though.
Somehow the timing is notable, as Elkann's brother made it clear on Twitter on Saturday what he thinks of the current state of affairs at Ferrari. "There is a need for seriousness and a winning team, in the pits and outside, it is time to wake up. With today's political games, we will never win."
It did not stop there, as Lapo then also responded to a comment made by a fan. The supporter in question stated that fans believe Ferrari lacks presidency. Lapo hurled into the world: "I know, unfortunately." Still, quite an extraordinary statement when your brother is the president of Ferrari
