The Australian Grand Prix had the most number of world titles combined on a single podium in Formula 1 history. Max Verstappen, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton combined account for 11 world titles.

The previous record stood at 10 world titles, a record achieved twice. At the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel achieved his only podium of the season. The win in that race went to Lewis Hamilton, then good for six titles, with second place for Sergio Perez. The other time ten world titles could be found on a podium was in 2012. In his last year in the sport, Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher managed to secure a podium finish only once, at the European Grand Prix in Valencia. The win then went to Alonso, and Kimi Raikkonen completed the podium.

It is also the first time since 2018 that there have been three world champions on the podium. That year, Hamilton, Vettel and Raikkonen regularly shared the podium. It is only the second time in history that three multiple world champions were together on a podium. The only other time that happened was in 1991, when Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost and Nelson Piquet shared the podium together.

Alonso cannot cash in on other record

With Verstappen's win in Australia, another record did fall. Until now, it was always the case that a driver who achieved 101 podiums also managed to turn his 101st podium into a win. Alonso was on the podium for the 101st time in Australia, but finished 'only' third.
