Windsor saw 'total control' from Verstappen: 'Was a typical RB19 pass'

Peter Windsor thought Max Verstappen was once again otherworldly in Australia. The Red Bull Racing driver remained patient even when there were two Mercedes in front of him. The fact that Verstappen now avoids certain duels and waits longer to overtake is really starting to become a characteristic of Max, according to Windsor.

"Max Verstappen was brilliant. He was outstanding. He made perfect starts from pole, three times. And he avoided first lap skirmishes, three times, and he went on to win by managing the tyres, making only one or two errors, but everyone made errors in this race, and was just in total control," judges Windsor in an analysis of the Australian GP on his YouTube-channel.

The British F1 journalist thought Verstappen drove sensibly at the start of the race. "Even when George Russell seized the lead, and when Lewis Hamilton came down the inside and Max gave him room and made sure they didn't touch. "That's really good. That's Max Verstappen, 23-spec, very mature, very good at recovering from annoying situations, planning the race, and doing the pass. And the pass was a typical Red Bull RB19 pass, around the outside of Lewis Hamilton on a quick bit of Albert Park."

Windsor once again saw the RB19 excel. "The compound brilliance of that Red Bull RB19 manifests itself not only in grip and balance and driveability, but also in a top speed advantage. There's lots of talk about how good it is with the DRS open, but with the DRS closed, its top speed advantage is just as significant."
