The FIA have announced they will test FANBOOST for the first time at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday. The hope is to bring this frequently in the future, with the Las Vegas Grand Prix also earmarked as a potential venue for the near feature.

Formula 1 will get a new tool to boost performance and hopefully improve overtaking on a track that is notoriously difficult to overtake on. FANBOOST, a concept from Formula E, will be tested at the 2023 Australian Grand Prix and, if successful, could lead to its use in future races.

How it will work is by allowing drivers to pass through a designated area when they are eligible to receive extra battery usage for the next lap to boost performance. The drivers will be selected by whoever the fans vote for in the F1 app. The fan boost zone will be located on the straight between turns 11 and 12 which is just before the start of the lap. This should be exciting news for anyone who was already excited about the return of Formula 1!

Changes to the sport

Over recent years, various changes have been made to the sport. This included new rules and regulations for the 2022 Formula 1 season but Liberty Media have made changes to the fans experiance as well. There's been a bigger focus on social media and creating more of a show for the fans at the track.

Formula 1 confirmed they will use a similar system to the driver of the day vote on the F1 app. Users have been advised to get the latest update in your app store.

The CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicalli, is excited to launch this platform. "This is another positive step forward as we look to heighten fan engagement. If fans suggest the race is boring, then at least they can try and make a difference from their sofas around the world. And they can share some of the blame themselves," Domenicalli said in the press release.
