Pirelli previously announced which tyres will be used at the Australian Grand Prix, these are different from the previous edition. Maria Isola reveals the impact this will have on the race.

The C2, C3 and C4 band have been selected for the weekend in Australia this year. Last year, these were the C2, C3 and C5 tyre. The soft tyre has thus become a step harder. With this, Pirelli is going back to the same composition as in 2019.

So in 2022, the C4 tyre was not used, leaving a big gap between the medium and soft tyre. As a result, the soft tyre was only used in qualifying. Each team did only one pit stop in the race, from medium to hard tyres or vice versa. So there were almost no differences in tyre strategy, which did not help the spectacle during the race. This year's tyre selection should change that.

More options in the race

So this year no tyre will be skipped in tyre selection, which Pirelli hopes will allow the softs to show up in the race this year. "This weekend, the teams will have the C2, C3, and C4 at their disposal, which means that they have more options for the race in terms of strategy: on paper at least," said Isola on Pirelli.com.
