The midfield drivers might not be fighting for wins week in week out, but here's a statistic that proves what drivers are gaining the most places this season, which is something to compete for at least.
The surprising winner of this is Alfa Romeo Sauber's Marcus Ericsson. The Swede is by far the most gaining driver on the grid, beating Fernando Alonso in second and Lance Stroll in third.
When you think about it, it's logical that Ericsson and Stroll are in here. They often start at the back of the field, so any time someone retires, they gain a place. As for Fernando Alonso, this is just proof of his amazing ability during a race to make the most out of things, as the Spaniard loves an overtake as we all know.
