Kubica returns to the track!
The first WEC race of the season will take place at the Sebring circuit this weekend. Robert Kubica, together with Rui Andrade and Louis Delétraz, will return to the track in his Oreca 07, in Team WRT colours.
Robert Kubica
After he departed from Williams F1, following the 2019 season, Robert Kubica decided to embark on an adventure with the DTM and then, from 2021, with endurance racing. This resulted in a start at 24 Le Mans in 2021. The team was close to winning the LMP2 class in France, but minutes before the end of the race, there was a car fault, and the team eventually finished in 19th place. In 2022, Team WRT had already competed in all the races of the season, with the Belgian WRT finishing the season in second place in the constructors' classification in the LMP2 class, managing to finish second at Le Mans, and Kubica himself finished the season in fifth place alongside his team partners.
In 2023, the Pole will return behind the wheel of the Le Mans Prototype 2 car by Oreca to fight for the World Endurance Championship.
Free practice
In the first free practice, held on 15 March at 16:00 Polish time, Robert's team managed to earn fifth place in the LMP2 class and fourteenth overall. In the second practice, they dropped one position in both classifications. There is one more free practice ahead before qualifying begins.
Sebring Circuit
The circuit, located in the USA, is 6,019 kilometres long and consists of 17 corners. The first endurance race was held there on New Year's Eve, 1950. It lasted six hours. Today, a race on the Florida circuit lasts eight hours, and the drivers have 1,000 miles, or 1,613 kilometres, to cover.
Plan for the weekend
There will be one more practice session for Kubica today (16.03) at 5pm, and then the drivers will begin qualifying, which is divided into three parts, as in Formula 1. The first part will begin at 11.30pm Polish time and will last 20 minutes. The next two parts will start in quick succession with five-minute breaks. Finally, the culmination of the weekend is the race. It will begin on 17.03 at 17:00. You can follow the race on Eurosport extra, Eurosport 1 and Polsat Sport News.
