Debate | Alonso will battle Verstappen for pole for Bahrain GP

All eyes are currently on Red Bull Racing as well as Aston Martin, especially Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso. Judging by the pace Alonso showed on Friday in Bahrain, he seems to be the one who can challenge Verstappen this weekend. Sergio Perez also had good pace.

It is a dream scenario for many: Alonso and Verstappen battling it out. So far, Aston Martin's pace looks so promising that many dare to predict that the battle in the Bahrain Grand Prix will be between the friendly two-time world champions.

Before that happens on Sunday, qualifying is still on the agenda. Only then will it become clear which Formula 1 teams have something left and who turns out to be disappointing after all. During practice sessions, it is not clear how much fuel and which engine positions will be used, so the proportions can still change.

Based on the winter test and the first two free practice sessions in Bahrain, Red Bull and Aston Martin seem to be in the best position. Perez also did not disappoint so far, but it was Alonso who ended Friday as the fastest man. Can the 41-year-old F1 veteran actually challenge Verstappen for pole position? Or will Perez manage to surprise and walk away with the prize in qualifying?
