The Vasseur era has begun. Last week the new team principal was officially presented by the team and made important statements regarding Ferrari's 2023 season and what to expect from his management. From the new approach to communication to driver management, here are the GPblog Italian editorial staff's opinions on Vasseur's words.

What transpires from Vasseur's first statements is that at the helm of Ferrari there is a humble person ready to do his part. The Frenchman has spoken several times about the task that awaits him at the team, describing it as an honour and a dream for anyone working in this sector. It is therefore normal to expect great seriousness and respect from the former Alfa Romeo team principal, as well as, according to his own admission, the ambition to win as soon as possible. Perhaps 2023 will not be the right year to see Vassuer's hand at work from a performance point of view, as the 675 (the car's provisional name) is a child of the previous management. We can certainly expect better team management from him, from the race wall to behind-the-scenes. Communication will be a crucial factor in his work as Team Principal.

Also not to be underestimated is the management of the drivers. Vasseur has stated several times how his relationship with Leclerc will not affect the choice of a first and second driver, and I believe it will. Not immediately at least. It would be too risky to start a season with such an internal rift, given that the competition is fiercer than ever. It may be that in the course of the season, perhaps even following the car's first results, Vasseur may reconsider his decision and thus choose a lead driver. Although he himself has considered the latter a possibility, I believe instead that this would be to the team's detriment, perhaps at a cathartic moment in the season such as the autumn restart, when last year Ferrari abandoned its chances of a title for good.

In his first press conference as Ferrari team principal Vasseur immediately made things clear, declaring that the only possible objective is to win. This is in line with what the media and fans in Italy want, who are now dissatisfied after years of talking about rebuilding, restarting, aiming for the podium and so on. For the new Team Principal, Ferrari has everything they need to win and that is what it must aim for. Even last season the material was excellent, but perhaps a little ambition was lacking.

Another very interesting point of the press conference is the one related to organisation and communication. The strategy problems Ferrari had last season are well known, but Vasseur hit the nail on the head when he said that you should not only look at the top of the pyramid. Problems of strategy are often due to problems of decision-making, organisation, and communication, and Vasseur has already hinted that he will put his hand to the much-criticised organisational structure set up by Binotto. A more vertical structure with clear and separate responsibilities can only do Ferrari good.

One issue that leaves me a little perplexed is that of the two drivers. Vasseur said in the press conference that there will not be a first and second driver, which he believes is for the good of Ferrari since we must all row together towards the Scuderia's victory. However, in my opinion, there is a risk of making the same mistake as in previous years, which introduced an even more dangerous variable into Ferrari's strategies. Intervening during the course of the season, as Vasseur has said he wants to do, could create tensions and misunderstandings in the team.
