More details known about new F1 Academy racing class

Starting this year, a new racing class will be introduced called the F1 Academy. With the arrival of this class aimed mainly at women, F1 hopes to get more talents through to Formula 3, Formula 2 and who knows, maybe even Formula 1 one day. Today, the F1 Academy shared more info on its social media channels.

The F1 Academy has indicated that there is room for as many as 15 drivers, all spread across five teams. This means that each team will participate with three cars. By the way, these are not unknown teams: ART, Campos, PREMA and also Dutch MP Motorsport will be present on the grid.

F1 preliminary programme

A total of seven race weekends will be held, with each weekend containing three races and at least one of them in the F1 supporting programme. The cars will all include a standard chassis with a turbocharged engine that can tap as much as 156bhp. The F1 Academy has come for 13-inch Pirelli tyres.

Accelerating development

The new racing class emphasises that preparation is supported on many levels, physically, mentally and technically. In addition, the drivers themselves also face a budget cap of €150,000. Also, 125 thousand euros per car will be set aside by Formula 1 to continue supporting the F1 Academy financially. They also promise that there will be space and more time for testing on the track to accelerate the development of the drivers in order to continue developing.
