The future of the German Grand Prix looks to be limited

The German Grand Prix gave us one of the best races seen over the last half decade in F1, but its future could be limited as F1 continues to work on the 2019 calendar. Sean Bratches has confirmed F1 want to race in Germany, but financial situations make it tricky.

Bratches also confirmed that a draft schedule will be released prior to the Belgian Grand Prix on the 29th August. The season could feature 20 races if deals aren’t made in Germany and Miami.

“Our interest is in remaining in Germany,” Bratches, the F1 commercial manager said in an interview on F1i.

“We have three countries out of 21 where the government doesn’t underpin the Grand Prix - Austria, Britain and Germany. So we’re trying to find an appropriate way around that. We’re not ready to wave the white flag on Germany just yet.”

He went on to confirm time is starting to go against them. Ticket sales are usually on sale one year prior to the race, but for 2019 that can’t happen.

“When we are speaking about 2020 then we have enough time. If somebody is thinking about 2019 then again we have to hurry up,” he added.

It’s a tough one. We’re sure everyone would love to see a German Grand Prix, particularly with big names Mercedes, Vettel and Schumacher all coming from the countries. But will it happen? Let us know in the comments.
