The announcement by Andretti and Cadillac was met with mixed reactions in the Formula 1 world. The two brands want to enter Formula 1 together. Cadillac continues to believe in its chances and does not care about the sport's hostility.

Michael Andretti has been shouting for more than a year that he wants his American team to enter Formula 1. A few weeks ago, the FIA announced that it was starting a process for newcomers to the sport. This was followed a little later by the announcement about Andretti's partnership with Cadillac.

The news was well received by fans, who would like to see an eleventh team on the grid. In F1, not everyone is as enthusiastic. The sport cannot yet guarantee that the American team can actually make an F1 entry. Michael Andretti reacted critically to the opinion of the current teams, who, according to the American, are mainly worried about money.

Cadillac not deterred

Speaking to the French branch of Motorsport.com Rory Harvey, the US carmaker's vice-president, said that Cadillac has not been put off by F1's hostility. "We would not have announced our intention to submit a declaration of interest if we did not believe that this proposal met the requirements and provided us with the means to succeed."

Harvey confirmed that much remains to be done. The US team will have to submit the document before the next steps can be taken. Any newcomer must submit an expression of interest that will be reviewed by the FIA and F1. The entry fee currently stands at $200 million, although teams reportedly prefer to increase this amount.

The involvement of General Motors is also widely questioned. Indeed, Andretti Cadillac would like to use the engines of an existing F1 team. GM confirmed to GPblog that talks are being held with Alpine. So what role will Cadillac play?

"We will do our best to show what we think we can bring to Formula 1. We are convinced that the partnership [with Andretti] is great and will allow us to perform well," Harvey added.
