Red Bull's plans for 2019 have hit some trouble. They had planned for Dan Ticktum to be promoted to Toro Rosso next season, but he is struggling to qualify for an FIA super licence. He had been rumoured to be replacing Brendon Hartley next season.

Ticktum had been put forward for a test drive after the Hungarian Grand Prix, but this idea has fallen off the radar. The 19-year-old was given a two-year ban in 2015 after causing a crash with a title rival.

Helmut Marko took the British man under his wings in the vision that the driver will follow the path set out by Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.

"He drives great races in Formula 3, but has not yet scored the points for the licence," Marko told Auto Motor und Sport.

"How are we supposed to bring our young drivers to Formula 1?"

Ticktum remained confident that he will one day achieve his dream of driving in formula one.

"I know I'm quick enough and good enough to make F1, but I need to focus on some pieces of the puzzle - but I'm a lot closer to the finished article," Ticktum added.
