Portimao is reportedly already all but agreed with F1 to replace China on the 2023 Formula 1 calendar, but it appears there are more hijackers on the coast. Indeed, Turkey is also said to be in talks with F1.

The Chinese Grand Prix may not be held for the fourth year in a row. China is still subject to strict coronagraphs, which is why F1 has decided to remove the GP from the calendar for 2023 as well. This time it does want to arrange a replacement so that the new season can continue to consist of a record 24 races.

Turkey also in the picture

Portimao seemed to be in pole position to fill that spot. Ni Amorim, president of Portugal's motorsport and karting federation FPAK, has already informed Lusa that there are talks about a possible return of the Portuguese Grand Prix. Earlier, Portuguese motorsport commentator Joao Carlos Costa revealed that the deal was as good as done.

Amorim is keeping a guard up in that regard. Talks are ongoing with Formula 1, but the government will still have to provide financial support for the GP to go ahead. Amorim also states that Portimao is not the only one at the table with F1. Turkey, with Istanbul Park, is also said to be in talks about a return.
