Schumacher won't give up F1 dream: 'I definitely want to stick around'

Mick Schumacher will start the weekend before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix disappointed after Haas' announcement. The German will be replaced by Nico Hulkenberg in 2023 and will therefore no longer drive in Formula 1. Schumacher hopes to share more about his plans for next year soon.

The news that Hulkenberg will take over Schumacher's seat in 2023 was not entirely unexpected. Rumours had been circulating for some time that the team wanted to replace the young German. Guenther Steiner gave the biggest reason for Schumacher's departure: he does not have enough experience.

"Obviously it's disappointing in some ways, because I feel like I've been doing a good job up to this point. On the other hand, the team decided to go that way so I have to respect that. And so yeah, I'm focused on the future now", Schumacher tells GPblog and others in the press conference.

Schumacher: 'I want to stick around'

According to the latest reports, the 23-year-old driver will be in action next season as Mercedes' reserve driver. At least Schumacher is not giving up on his F1 dream just yet. "I definitely want to stick around and I have time now so I will see all the options that I have. And, and then yeah, hopefully take the right one that will bring me into a bright future. I just want to put myself into a position where I know it's going to be right for me and whether that's a reserve, if that's driving, that's to be discussed and to be analysed and I have the people that I trust around me who I will be consulting with and then yeah, I'll come up with some news hopefully soon."
