Bernie Ecclestone thinks Mick Schumacher's days in Formula 1 are numbered. Speaking to German RTL the former Formula 1 boss says he does not see Schumacher returning next year and advises him to look for another racing class.

There has been much talk recently about the second seat at Haas, the last spot no one has yet been confirmed for next year. It looks very much like it is currently only between Schumacher and Nico Hülkenberg. Haas team boss Guenther Steiner has promised that it will be known before the last race who Kevin Magnussen 's colleague will be next year, although rumours suggest it could be announced as early as this week.

Schumacher's options do not look great. The German has been plagued by bad luck this year but has also regularly broken down the car himself. Both factors contribute to the fact that he currently has only half the number of points of Magnussen. According to Ecclestone, reason enough to assume that Schumacher will not drive at the American racing stable next year.

'His name is his biggest burden'

As the son of the legendary Michael Schumacher, Mick obviously had a lot to live up to. In Ecclestone's view, that is precisely where things went wrong. "Maybe he should forget Formula 1 and concentrate on the other motorsport series," says Ecclestone. "His name is his biggest burden, but he is trying to live up to it as best he can. And that gets him into trouble. So: forget Formula 1 and win in another category."

There is another possible scenario where Schumacher still stays in Formula 1 even if Haas sends him away. Logan Sargeant is the intended second driver at Williams for next season but to do so he must first obtain his super licence. If that fails, Schumacher could potentially still go to Williams.
